OT what do ads on smalltime websites usually pay???

I had someone inquire about advertising on a website of mine. What kind of rates should I ask for? The site doesn't have a lot of traffic. Should I ask for a flat fee or will I get paid based on how many hits the ad gets? What is normal in this situation? Thanks for any help!
