SP/Dif to Aes/ebu

SP/Dif to Aes/ebu

1999-11-05 by Björn Lodin

Hi,

I have a TC Gold channel, and it has 24 bit I/O on Aes/Ebu only. (20 bit on
SP/Dif) Can I just make a cable Aes to SP/ Dif and connect it with my Motu 2408
and stay with 24 bit ?

Thanks

Bjorn

Hi,

I wouldn't recommend it... Midiman has a SPDIF to AES/EBU convertor... I think
that's safer. I'm not a tech wizard though, so I'm not sure...

Most of the time it will work. Ask on rec.audio.pro for really good info
or ask here again, I'll provide you with a pin-instruction, out of my EMU
sampler's manual.
cheers, bernd

Hi Bernd,

Question: is it possible to just add an XLR-to-cinch adapter? Will that work on an
SPDIF cable? It's just that I have a normal SPDIF cable, but the main out of my
Ramsa DA7 has an XLR digital out which can be set to SPDIF or AES/EBU. I hope a
stanbard XLR-to-cinch adapter will work... but I have bad feelings about it.
thanks.

Well, had no problems with my EMU e64. It's even in the manual, that this
is possible.
Just try it, use 75 Ohm video cable for SPDIF or 110 Ohm for AES. For the
adapter I took the 75 Ohm and it worked flawlessly.
cheers, bernd

Hi all!
Normally it is no problem. I always used a normal Cinch cable as SP/DIF which was
no problem (unless the cable length doesn't exceed 1-1.5 m). That's the nice
thing about SP/DIF and AES/EBU: the format is nearly the same and the exchange of
the 2 is normally no problem!
Cheers,
Gilles
