Even if I usually stopped replying to such posts (hm, knowing that I might
bother 3500+ people with EVERY letter I type can be a hard thing...) I
couldn't agree more - personally I really like those OT mails at times, I
just know that some (highly valuable) people allready left the list because
of the too high amount of OT and/or flaming/spamming on this list (the
average amount of mails from this list seems to be quite above 100/day these
days), that's why I usually don't reply at all (even if the "boring as my
wife" thread could start a very interesting discussion - hm, too bad my
english isn't too good, maybe that's another reason for me not to reply...).
But, as said, suddenly you can see a person behind the lines (well,
sometimes you can...).

Finally, why don't people interested in a nice (or NOT so nice...) OT
discussion take it to the LUG-OT?
I mean, it's simply impossible to discuss such threads in private as others
might want to jump in or so, it's also impossible to start or enter a
seperate list for all OT threads, but that's what the OT list is for (at
least for a certain amount of time...).
My reply is gonna be CCed there as well...

Cheers,
Sascha

Misogynist "jokes"

If you folks think that humor is harmless, you aren't giving comedy the
credit it's due. Should gay men ignore "fag" jokes, because they're just
"jokes?"

I've found that it is usually impossible to change people's minds on this
subject... no amount of reaching out helps, so why bother? I couldn't care
less what any of you think, whether you consider me or anyone else
"politically correct" and therefore phony, self-righteous, prude, or
whatever. I just don't like to see misogynist "humor" pass uncriticized,
and I think that it's worth my time and typing to say "this is
unacceptable," at least every once in a while, in the hopes that if
ignoramuses encounter resistance to their ignorance, they'll flaunt it less
often. Mark [something or other] is likely to keep making clumsy, crude
cracks about Nazis, boring wives, and goodness knows what else to his
personal acquaintances. On the LUG, though, I hope he'll keep his true
colors hidden.
