USB MIDI on WinXP Pro

USB MIDI on WinXP Pro

2002-06-30 by alistairhirst

Please help out a Mac guy who bought a PC to run Gigastudio.

System:
Windows XP Pro
Midiman 4X4 MIDISport (USB)

I installed the latest drivers from MIDImans website, and the
installation wizard says the interface is working properly. It
shows up in the hardware list as a USB device.

How the heck do I let Windows know it's a MIDI device?

In Gigastudio (and Reaktor) when I go to select a MIDI input in
the system configure page, there is nothing there. What step am
I missing?

TIA for any help

I haven't installed this unit or used XP (just Win2000 and earlier) but
generally with Windows you sometimes have to go in and "pick from the list"
of device categories. Try looking for a category like "Sound Video and Game
Controllers" or Sounds or Multimedia -- once you tell it the category of
device you are installing Windows will know what it is dealing with.

This is a pretty stupid oversight in Windows I think -- should have been
fixed before XP -- you have all these "Hardware Wizards" and inf files to
identify the device.

Once you get the procedure for installation right write it down for
yourself in a text file so you will be able to do it again another time.

Murray
