Pluggo How good are they

Pluggo How good are they

2004-01-10 by HKC

I am just about to crossgrade to Mac and I wonder how good are those Pluggo plugins. I have most of the stuff from the more acclaimed (expensive) companies like PSP, Ohm Force, GMedia, Element Audio....... and also the Powercore and UAD1. So what I would like to know is Pluggo like a Jack-of-all-trades package or is it up to pro recording. The number of plugins in the package indicates the first but I dont know, theyre pretty cheap so if its any good it seems like a "must have" to me. On the other hand if theyre like the MDA plugins, good but in most cases not good enough, then theyre probably not for me.

They are a must have, not for the basics like EQ and compression and
reverb but for all the truly wacked out stuff. Also there are some
run of the mill effects where I feel pluggo hangs in there with the
very best. They have a flanger called Jet for example that sounds
about as good as any flanger I know of.

I definitely agree on the quality of this flanger!

I would say some of the pluggo plug-ins goes a bit into the same area as the
Destroy FX stuff. I have only had some hours with Pluggo (instead of sleeing
last night) but there seem to be some interesting virtual routing
possibilities as well.

And I discovered I got a lot of soft synths as well with the Pluggo package.
Some FM sounding synths that, though they use some CPU, sound really good!!!
When using them you might take care not to end up sounding like JHNO, though
;-)

The extent to which you dig Pluggo probably depends on what
style of music you work with, and what you hope to achieve
with it.

Pluggo excels at twisting things into unrecognizability, in a way
that is controlled and random. If you're doing straight up blues,
you'll find little in there that's useful (there are a few straight-up
classic effects, but they're by far the minority.) If, however,
there's room in your music for things that are tripped out,
garbled, slithering, or just plain bizarre, you might find yourself
getting lost for hours moving a few little knobs around and
hearing what happens.

I would say Pluggo is to fx as Reaktor is to synths. And don't
get me started on the things that happen when you run Reaktor
into Pluggo.
