There's been repeated rumours of this recently - one Apple spokesman even saying that it's as perennial as Halley's Comet - but this really does look like it's kosher...I don't know whether to laugh or cry. 'Intel Inside' and the Apple logo on the same machine? Just had to check it's not April 1st. I guess we'll all know on Monday. Just so long as they don't use VIA chipsets... ___ Ade LAWP 5.5.1

Yeah, but there seems to be new info of a different nature. Apple have often denied rumours about things they were not ready to announce. As you say we'll soon know. Regards, M

I enjoyed playing with PC's, but having been given so much control in the computer world, Gates started to think it was all his. I hope Apple doesn't go that route also because I belive people are finally sick of Gates and Windows. He has managed to get his operating systems into computers for a long time now and each new upgrade has been so full of flaws that most users that I know are just plain sick to death of him. Hopefully, the Intel parts match the integrity Apple is expecting them to have.

I find it odd that you are dubious about the "integrity" of Intel's parts. While their marketing has led the architecture by the nose for some years and some recent chips (eg Prescott) have run very hot (for the same reasons the latest G5s are noisy) they run code as expected. Most of the world's business and communications runs on x86 and has done for quite a while. If you run binaries - Unix, Linux, Win32 or 64 - the processor spits out the expected results. As the presentation said - all the versions of OSX for the last five years have been compiled to run on Intel. This is not surprising given that the Unix base on which OSX is built is native to Intel. Regards, Murray

This might be the first glimmer of something that even die-hard Apple enthusiasts gave up fantasizing about years ago - entertaining stuff on the implications over at the Inquirer, especially: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=23769 Read it after watching the alternatively jaw-dropping and hilarious WWDC keynote: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/wwdc05/ - Intel's CEO couldn't have been in more of an orgiastic state if Steve Jobs' real first name was Blow. Compare and contrast with the almost begrudging attitude of Apple's former chip partners. Wasn't D-Day also on the 6th of June? ___ Ade
