shifted grid position

shifted grid position

2005-12-12 by Peter Naugler

Occasionally after I have quantized I'll notice that all the notes have
shifted a bit on the grid. I usually select all of them and manually
slide them back only to find that it has occurred in all the audio
instruments. Any idea what's going on? I'm using Logic Pro 6 OS X.

A similar thing... in my arrange I have accidentally shifted the
starting point in the arrange to a minus so that the starting point is
no longer 1. When that has happened I just live with it because I
haven't figured out how to reset it. It happens when I'm moving
sequences or audio regions or resizing and the cursor slips into the
"1" area of the bar ruler. I see it shift but can't figure how to undo
it.

One last question, in Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" there's a hooky
instrument that starts right after the drums. Does anyone know if that
sound is included in Pro 6? I can't remember running across it in the
synthesizers.

Thanks Peter

I believe yor're referring to Stevie's clavinet. And
that's more than "a hooky instrument", it's a Monster
signature lick for that song, and probably THE nost
famous clav lick ever. (Actually it's several clavs
layered.)
I'm sure there must be some clavs in Pro 6 but they
won't sound anything like that track. The best
software ones that I'm aware of are in the Scarbee
Vintage Keyboard Collection. I just bought them but
can't get them to work in Logic. Demos blew me away
though.

Does anyone know where I could find a transcription of
Stevie's clav on this tune? I've always wanted to play that lick and
I'm sure I won't hear all the parts buried in the mix to transcribe
it myself. Also, I'm lazy. :-)

There was a whole thread on this recently in the
keyboard section at www.musicplayer.com. I would look
there

It is indeed! In my opinion (as a clavinet fiend!) the EVD6 that
comes with logic is a very good representation of a clavinet. Its a
string modelling synth with more than enough scope to pull of a vast
majority of clav sounds, I use it very frequently. If you have logic
pro 6 or 7 you already have it. before that it was a paying upgrade.
Just get a decent expression pedal, link it to the wah (built in to
the EVD6, whats a clav without a wah!) and insert a guitar amp pro
(in 7), tweak and enjoy. I've certainly been able to get that stevie
vibe from it, it just needs tweaking, the presets really don't do it
justice, Mike
