Dennis Gunn- guitar god

2001-06-28 by John Matthews

I just listened to your track about Rats in cages! I liked it. The singer
sounds completely off his trolley- excellent, made me laugh.

"The critics that have heard what I do say it is creative, but that
> proves nothing."

I'd say it is creative- and entertaining.

Nice off the wall solo, let me know if you guys are going to play in the
south East UK- Kent preferably.

Cheers

John

I had a listen as well. I like it. There is a huge void left after the sad
demise of Mr Zappa who in my opinion was a real modern day genius, and for
so many reasons (which is probably what make him a genius). I have heard
loads of Zappa. Some of it interesting, some of it not particularly but most
of it brilliant. His best album in my view is Apostrophe and closely
followed by Sheik Yer Bouti and then... oh sod it, there are loads.

I would like to hear something a bit more up to date (not that I think it is
dated, just interested to hear some more stuff using the same technology as
me (more or less). A kind of mixture of Beefheart, Zappa
and...and...and....well, Gunn

I am the slime oozing out from your TV set.
Watch out where those huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow.
I may be totally wrong but I'm a...dancing fooo..oo..oo..oo..ooooll, I'm a

I've got a nasty little jewish princess.... <sensored>
Hey there kid's I'm Bobby Brown....
Hot rats, hot zitz.....
deh...deh,deh,deh,deh,deh,deh, dehhhh, dehhh...(instrumental) deh didley
didle deeh dee dee dee deeeeee (name that tune)

Long live the music of FZ.

PS I forgot him in my guitarist list. He played a mean solo or two, and of
course was totally unique. Then again I did say me list was for that week
only!

That balanced individual would be me as well.

Thank you very much. That is gratifying basically all I was hoping
to achieve. Well money would have been nice too but..

Although I don't make them myself he Zappa associations are always an honor.

Actually I recorded that in logic and the essentials of the system I
use have not changed much except that back then I was using a
Digidesign Session 8 which only gave me 8 tracks. As a lot of other
artists have observed, the more limited system I was using back then
seems to have made me more focused and productive than all the
possibilities I have now. Or maybe I am just getting lazy and that
sounds like a good excuse.

And BTW Beefheart is THE MAN. Actually I was thrilled to have guitar
god "Gary Lucas" who played in Beefheart's band when he made "Ice
Cream For Crow" play on a cut of "hot air head". He was the only
other guitarist my competitive nature allowed me to put on the album,
and he has such a competitive nature that there is practically an
explosion from the amp every time he plugs in. To be perfectly
honest it made it pretty difficult to play with him.
