Perhaps years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Dickus, when they brought home their baby boy, considered "John Dickus" or "James Dickus", maybe "Ian Dickus", "Cornilius J Dickus"...but no ... none of those had the right ring to them....until they happened upon the very commonly used name "Bigus" and the rest was history.

When I worked for the USO here in Germany seven years ago, I met an Army officer whose last name was Dick. He was a major. Major Dick. You can bet he caught hell from the soldiers under his command. :-) Charles Simmons

mentioned in "The Life of Brian".

And finally... The small village I used to live in had a policeman called Mr Penny (a copper) and the guy who ran the post office was called Mr stamp. When I was really small (about 7) I lived in Cyprus (my dad was in the RAF) and there was a grocery deliver bloke called Aristotle. I asked my mum one day, Mum, what time is Mr Stottle coming? (I thought his name was Harry Stottle). Ahhh bless!
