I for one respect your comments about GCC. As one of those how have tried to use GCC and the like, I would like to share an experience I have will the whole open source issue. I purchased the book "Embedded System Design on a Shoestring" by Lewin Edwards. ( this message is about the software, _not_ this book and its author.) I loaded the CD from the book, and nothing. Two weeks with working with a "knowledge" friend I got the compiler working. ( two hobby time weeks) Great, now I have a compiler. I built up a wiggler and tried to run the debugger and nothing again. I asked for help from Lewin, could not figure it out. I asked on the GCC/GDB groups, no answer (not a peep). I asked a few more time, and someone said "are you using PRN or LPT" Doh, whats that ? Its the difference between DOS/WIN and *nix. Oh. it works now... 6 weeks of tring to solve what should have been a simple problem. It seems that if the GCC/GDB people would try to understand what the DOS/WIN people understand rather that say "go learn it for your self", the whole open source problem would go away. But, I understand "whos got time to learn...." Works both ways. Don Hamilton
