Nick, I did not expect anything like this either... I had a look at the P2106 schematics and apparently it is similar to the mt board in this respect. The same 5V zenerdiode followed by a 3.3V regulator. This regulator feeds the RS232 chip, no RS232 -no bootloader. Both the mt and the P schematics actually say 9VAC, but the documentation says 6VAC 9VDC. Good luck!
