How Can I check the RS485 Communication?

How Can I check the RS485 Communication?

2006-04-04 by Saravanakumar S

Hi all,
I am newbie to this field. I have a Serial device,it is based
on RS485 communication.
It tranmits the data, but i didn't get any data.So that,I want to check
whether it is transmit the data or not?
I don't know how to check the data.

Is there any tool is available to monitor RS485 data [like Teminal,&
Hyper terminal tool(RS 232 communication)]

Can you please tell me how to check the data?

Regards,
S.Kumar

You could make an interface converting from RS-485 to RS-232, it's just a
couple of chips. You would then be able to use a terminal program for
testing.

Thank you for your information.

How We Can sure the converted data is Correct.Because,we cannnot check the
RS485 data.Whatever the RS232 data we received from the
converted circuit is correct.

We Can sure that no data loss will occur during this conversion.

Is anybody having simple conversion circuit.

Any specific URL, to get the circuit

Put an oscilloscope on the line. That will verify that you have
signals of the
correct voltage and speed.

After that any number of commercial 485-232 converters or even a handbuilt one
will do just fine for monitoring the stream on a PC with a standard serial
capture program (Almost anything is better than hyperterminal). Al least as
long as you are using a standard baud rate.
