Posting problems

2006-05-02 by Richard

Could anybody offer any suggestions as to why posts from me take 3 to 4
days to turn up on the list? There does not seem to be a simple way of
finding the answer in the help system.

Normally I post by replying to an email. This time I'm using the WEB
interface to see if it makes any difference.

Thanks and regards,
Richard.

Sometimes yahoo takes a while to process mail but that seems
unusual. Check your bounce history. They have a habit of kicking me off
when my ISP rejects something as containing a virus.

There was a FreeRTOS post just today that showed that kind of delay though.

FWIW this is also going via e-mail

This one seems to have gone through very quickly. Someone on another group
mentioned a similar problem, I think it was suggested that with a large
group it takes a long time to process the mail if one joined a long time ago
(I see you joined in May, 2004) but I don't know if that is actually the
reason.

Well, my membership dates from Nov, '03. So if that's a factor it can't be
the whole reason. On the other hand I've had a time or two when yahoo had
to intervene to get things going again so maybe that cleared up whatever
the underlying factor is.

I just tried searching on Google for something relevant, it seems to be a
common problem with other groups from time to time. Sometimes it's been
caused by viruses, apparently. I suppose they have to hold the emails while
they sort out the problem, as some are spread via email attachments.

I like to add that I noticed posts by email started lagging behind by
up to 24 hours when I switched to web posting a month ago.

For the last two or three days, I noticed that even web posts get
delayed and in some occations appear to fail altogether. After I hit
the send button often it comes back with a page I dont recognise.

Somehow (I cant explain why) doing a "preview" then "send" seems to
work better.

IMHO, Yahoo has some really funky stuff going on in their email
software. There are messages which sporadically do not get to me that I
will see someone reply to and I'll get that reply. Then, when I check
the web interface, I see that the original had gone out on the list but
my copy failed to get to me.

Other times, I will mysteriously stop getting mail from the Yahoo lists
I subscribe to. At one point, I had to unsubscribe and resubscribe
before mail started to flow again.

I suspect that if my mail server is unreachable, for any reason, that
Yahoo will drop the message rather than spool for later delivery. That
is all I can figure out, network congestion, hiccup in a router,
whatever. The message gets dropped to me. They are the only list
server that does this and I subscribe to a number a lists!

Good thing I don't rely on Yahoo for anything critical (nor will I).

TomW

Or maybe not, the last 1/2 dozen or so posts haven't shown up in my e-mail
at all. I though things had gone rather quiet ;)

Now we'll see if it's only receiving that gas stopped.

Curiouser and curiouser, this arrived quickly leaving a rather large
gap. Apparently yahoo groups has a large variance in message latency.

I received failure notice for on 02/05 (below) and I am quite sure
there was one much earlier that never made without a trace.
