Philips is laying off loads of engineers in Sunnyvale where a lot of 
the LPC210x team is situated. $1000 for an application note (that is, 
only IF you win, and then only up to a total of 20 winners) is a lot 
cheaper for them than having to pay someone in Sunnyvale for a week 
or two to write an app note (the total of $20K Philips is willing to 
pay for the contest would be about the total expense of a single 
engineer in Sunnyvale for about 1.5 months or so).

I for one am missing all of the good app notes and software that we 
are used to from the Philips 8051 teams. Hope many people send in 
ideas to Philips to benefit all of us, although Philips doesen't seem 
to have the money to hire people to develop these app-notes 
themselves anymore... To help this situation, I will try to continue 
to post software in this forum, and hope others will do the same.
