LPC-H40 pcb

LPC-H40 pcb

2004-01-07 by eduardo_de_mier

I need a couple of boards compatible to the Olimex LPC-H40. My
customer has access to free LPC samples from Philips. However Tsvetan
told me that he would not sell the blank pcbs. On the other hand David
Willmore posted that he would like a version with low diameter pins
that fit in a DIP40-socket.
For these reasons I am planing to design a LPC-H40 pin compatible pcb
with EAGLE.
If someone would join me doing the part library f.e. I would not mind
to post the result for free download, similar to the way Leon has done
it.
Still there is the possibility that Tsvetan would change his mind ;).

I was halfway through designing a 40 pin module when Olimex announced
their's, so I lost interest. It wouldn't take long to finish it off.
As it stands it isn't compatible with the Olimex one. I was intending
to make it a bit wider (1"), but could make it fit a 0.6" wide socket.

I'll upload the schematic and preliminary PCB layout.

I have looked through the file section and found an EAGLE lbr uploaded
by richas. I modified the symbol so it would be compatible to the one
used by Olimex.
The module is ready. It is called LPC-M416. It is compatible to the
Olimex H40 and carries a 16 pin connector that matches the used pins
of the Wigler 20 pin JTAG adaptor.
I uploaded a pdf of the schematic. It would be nice to get a comment
on the schematic by someone who has used the Wiggler JTAG before I
upload the board.

The Wiggler connections look OK to me. I don't think you need the
pullup on TRST; I had it connected on my board originally, but now
have it removed - it still works OK. Macraigor don't recommend any
pullups and I don't think that Philips does.

LPC-M416 V1.0

2004-01-15 by Eduardo de Mier

Hi,
I have just uploaded the gerber files and documentation to the module.
The archive file is called LPC-M416 V1.0 CAM.zip. The name implies
that the pin count is 40 and the JTAG connector has 16 pins. Take care
to connect the stadard 20 pin JTAG (Wiggler Tool or similar) so that
pin1 is in the right place. There is a marking on the pcb.
The module is basicly compatible to the Olimex LPC-H40 except that
there is a JTAG connector on board, the 5 volt pin is not used and the
supply must be 3.3 volts at pin 4.
If you are going to use the XIN it is a good idea not to assembled the
crystal Q1. The pullup R6 may be redundant.
I haven't tested it yet. Leon checked the schematics and you can have
a look at the pdf files yourself. However the risk of not working at
all is negligible.

I would like to call this "PCB-ware" as an analogy to "Postcardware".
This means that if you order a couple of pcbs and you have some left
because the manufacturer won't make less than 100 x 100 mm please send
one to me. Send me an email and I'll give you my address.

Good luck.
Eduardo

p.s.:
Anyone who is interested in the original EAGLE CAD files please send
me an email. There will be a charge though since the amount of work
was one full day.

I just checked the top and bottom copper Gerber files and the drill
file with GCPrevue. They look OK, so the board should be acceptable to
most PCB suppliers.

I'd like a couple to play with so I'll get some made by PCB-Pool.

I've just ordered a batch of nine boards from PCB-Pool - price about
105 Euros for eight working days turnaround. I should have them in a
couple of weeks. I'll send Eduardo one to play with.
