That makes sense.  Many of the cabinets I've seen are beautiful, but they
are too bulky for my needs.

It's also appropriate.  By the time Paul finishes the backlog, we'll all be
living in outer space ;)

I hope I can get a case in all black -- almost all road cases use unpainted
aluminum somewhere on the outside.  It's very important that the case
remains rigid even with the front lid removed and I don't think that can be
done without using some sort of metal.

I'm also thinking of making it 5U shorter -- 35U rather than 40U.  It will
be closer to five feet than six feet in height, so it I can use everything
without getting out of my chair.  It will also look finished much sooner,
and be less likely to tip over.

Oh, yeah it will also be closer to the proportions of the Sentinel :)

While that will give me less room for future expansion, it will still have
30 motm units of "regular" modules, which imho is a very capable monosynth,
as well as 15 rack units for 500, 600, and third-party modules.

Since I already have a 1U rackmount MIDI-->CV converter which I need to
keep because it has DIN sync, I'm not planning on buying a 650.  Only one
other 600-series module has been announced, the 3U sequencer, so as it
stands now there is still another seven motm units left in the 600 panel.

(remember, it's not a real modular unless you can swap the modules around :)

Based on the dimensions in the Digikey catalog, a CP131-A should just about
fit in a 2U box.  That leaves 2U.  Since I want to leave the rear lid on
during use, I'll put a 1U perforated panel at very top for ventilation, and
leave 1U at very bottom open to run the MIDI and power cable out the front.
