I would also recommend the Roland units. I currently have an RE-201 and an SRE-555. There is really nothing like them. Far more versatile than an Echoplex. Than Roland line breaks down more or less like this: 1. RE-101 First unit introduced. Six different echo modes. 3 single and 3 with feedback. 2. RE-201 Like the 101 but with spring reverb. 3. RE-301 Includes all the above plus a BBD chorus. Footpedal control of tape speed. 4. RE-501 All the above plus Sound on Sound and Balanced I/O. Companding for Noise reduction. 5. SRE-555 Identical to the 501 but rack mountable. Weighs a ton! 6. RE-150 Similar to the 101 but produced later. Mostly IC design. As david mentioned be careful when purchasing. Due to the mechanical nature machine condition can vary enormously. Try before you buy if at all possible. You often see these units on Ebay and they can get quite expensive. Check local vintage guitar shops as well. Prices seem to range from about $200.00 to $800 depending on model and condition. I have the Manuals and service docs for all units should you or any other person on this list ever need them. Feel free to email me privately if you have more questions. Also check this link at Music Machines for more info. Music Machines: Roland/effects . Charles. Dave Bradley wrote: > The Roland kicked butt.
