OT - The 5/8" hollow shaft nut driver conspiracy

2004-12-21 by ivancu@aol.com

I recently got some very nice Wiha hollow shaft nut drivers and was surprised when I couldn't find one in 5/8". So I started checking around and found that VERY few nut drivers are available in 5/8". About the only one I could find is made by Klein. What gives? Is it intentionally done to annoy hypercritical anal-retentive people like me who want to have a set of matching nutdrivers in all the MOTM sizes? Is the world supply of 5/8" hollow shaft nut drivers in some warehouse at Area 51?

Guess so! :)

My Xcelite set doesn't have one either, but I never needed
one so far. What's the MOTM part that needs a 5/8" driver?

I suspect that this is a typo. The logical size between 3/8" and 1/2"
sizes would be 7/16" if you look at the sizes as a progression. I have
not paid attention to the sizes used while constructing, as I have a
whole set and just pick the one that fits. :)

I don't have, nor have I used a 5/8" driver.

Unnnhhh.. 5/8 is _larger_ than 1/2. The logical progression would be
3/8 (6/16), 7/16, 1/2 (8/16), 9/16 and 5/8 (10/16).

Just checked my old Xclite nutdriver kit (HS-6-18) and it only goes up
to 9/16. I guess that 10/16 must be like that legendary 11 on the amp
volume dial.

I do have a set of deep sockets up to 1.25 inches plus about the same in
Metric (25mm if I remember) so these would work in a pinch.
