Stupid question; is it all the same stuff? Worth ordering from Mouser versus
settling for the Radio-Shack stuff?

I use the Mouser Silicone-based stuff. Nice and goopy.

"But, if you can buy it mail order from Mouser, why won't the PO let
Paul post it?"

---This stuff does not seem terribly dangerous; don't know where the
postal ban idea came from....

It's too bad us kit guys can't get little foil packets of the stuff for
you builders. RS does have small tubes and they will last forever or up
to about 20 years, when they get a little dried out...

I had a company tell me they had a special handling charge for SOLDER,
because it was a toxic metal. I suggested they look at the issue again.
They backed off; maybe confused by EPA regs?

Too right. I bought my small pot some 20 years ago and only recently has
it become a little stiff. Although you can spoon it out nicely with a
small screwdriver. :-)

But, if you can buy it mail order from Mouser, why won't the PO let Paul
post it?

I'm not sure why, but I did notice that Mouser sent my tube of silicone
grease in a separate package from my other item that was ordered, shipped
and received on the same day.

I think the problem that Paul has is with the US Post Office. Mouser ships
UPS, Fed Ex, and other private shipping companies in the US. The heat sink
will last forever, but is kind of expensive. I think my 2 oz. tube (which
will last longer than my life for how I use it) was about $10(?), but the
tiny Radio Shack tubes are around $3(?). If the only thing you are buying it
for is MOTM VCOs (and the like) you may want to start with the tiny tube, and
if you run out in a year or two by the bigger (and much better value) 2 oz.
tube.

I need a PERMIT from DOT (Department of Transportation) which involves 183
pieces of
paper. Screw it.

What about UPS, FedEx, etc. Is that still the same case?
