Matrix 6R scrambled???

Matrix 6R scrambled???

2006-02-14 by skylab001

I just recieved my matrix 6r and to my dismay when I plugged it in I got @@@@@@@@@@@@
across the entire LCD screen and none of the buttons worked, I tried turning it on and off
again a couple times and nothing but the same @@@@@@@@@@@ all the way across the
screen. I then tried hooking it up to my midi controller to see if I could get any sound and
nothing. I ran through every midi channel and nothing worked. I then looked a little closer
and noticed a few screws missing on the case so I went ahead and removed the top, when I
noticed that a cable that looks alot like a standard IDE cable(with 3 connection points) was
disconntected. I proceeded to plug it back in but it didn't help at all. I also checked to see if
all cable harnesses and chips were seated properly, which they seemed to be.

Has anybody here ever checked out thier M6 or 6r(is that really an IDE cable....wish I had a
picture of the insides of this thing)....and has anybody ever experienced this problem? Maybe
know how to correct it. I'm guessing the Rom chip may be messed up...but that is just a
guess.

I've seen this exact same thing. It must be a common problem.

Mine worked sporadically after the cable was reconnected. I returned it and
got two Matrix 1000s

Matrix 6 s have notorious power supply issues. Upgrade all the capacitors & pull and reseat all the connectors. Use some vaseline or bulb grease to keep

Brian,

Don't know if this will help or not but there is a little know RESET
routine that you might try.

Shut it down for several minutes and then hold down the RED STORE
button before you turn it back on.

Thanks you for all your help, After I took another look at the insides of this thing, I
realized there had to be somewhere to plug the 3rd connector on the ribbon cable, and I
found it, the keypad display board. and then I went and reseated(very carefully) all the
proms that needed it, turned it on while holding down the store button and after
autocalibrating, it was alive!!

Yes I am relieived now Thanks everybody!

GREAT!!!!

You fared better than I did with one I bought on eBay. When it came, 2
of the characters didn't work in the display. I have been unsuccessful
in my search for a new display. Otherwise, it works perfectly! I have
another one that works fine so if I have a question about a patch or
whatever, I can consult the other M6R.

So glad you got it going!! It's an awesome synth.

Re: Matrix 6R scrambled no more

Glad your M6R is ok now. I saw your SOS on the Electro-Music site, but
couldn't reply (userid/password issue) Mine boots up with the dreaded
display issues, multiple reboots ultimately takes care of it. But each
time I hold my breath. It's been this way for about 7 years now.

Anyway - hello - new member here. Have had a M6R/M1000 combo for many
years now. I just redid my studio, and now have the M6R right in front
of me. It's getting more use now! I have used soft editors before,
but now use the front panel. I'm old school that way.

I use them as a pair, same patches in both, detuned and panned. My
M1000 is brighter sounding for sure. I had the M1000 as master for the
group thang, but now have M6R the boss, so editing/passing patches is
easier.

It's been a while since I used them very much. I'm enjoying the
revival.

James,

Welcome to the group!

Not a lot of activity here but since you have your Oby stuff back up
and running, maybe things will pickup.

It's hard to believe that OB was so far ahead of their time.
