Hello to everyone and OB-Xa repair questions

Hello to everyone and OB-Xa repair questions

2014-06-27 by zap@...

Hi guys,
first time post to this group, so hello to all of you. I recently bought a used OB-Xa for a quite reasonable price and face the following
problem:
All controls on the surface work fine except the LFO Rate. The depth controls for Pitch/Filter and PWM, however show a change to the destination, but in a static way. The LFO isn't oscillating.
Can someone give me a hint of what could be wrong, or where to start investigating ?

Cheers,
Stephan

I would start (surprisingly) with checking LFO circuit :-)

Look if there's no cable broken or connector disconnected. Clean all connectors and reseat them. Reseat carefully all IC's in sockets. Check if switches work properly.

If this doesn't help, it needs more detailed analysis of signals with oscilloscope.

There's also lot of trimmers for calibration, maybe your instrument needs such calibration.

Let me know if you need Service manual, I have some downloaded from internet. There's description how to calibrate LFO's.

Good luck with repair. Probably it will be not so difficult.

Hi Daniel,
could you give me a hint where the lfo section is located ? On which board do i have to look. Do you know which parts are used to create the oscillation ? Is there a dedictated line to the voice cards motherboards, which i might check for correct signal ?

Cheers,
Stephan

Stephan, I don't have this instrument, and don't know it well from
technical point of view, and don't have enough time for study of
service documentation for you. You or your technician can do it
directly. I speak just generally, as a collector and hobby serviceman
who does maintenance and repairs of his numerous instruments. Besides
the check I recommended to you, I usually change electrolytic
(sometimes also tantalum) caps, especially in power supply circuit,
sometimes I replace old displays with EL backlight for modern with LED
backlight.

I can send you service manuals, please don't expect from me concrete
advice what to do with this instrument. Maybe some owner or specialist
who knows it will answer your questions. I fight now with my Matrix 6r
repair...

Hi Daniel,
thx very much. I will try to figure out by the service manual. But if someone familiar with OB-Xa could give a hint would be very appriciated.

Good luck with your 6r, i also have one, but it never had a problem.

Cheers,
Stephan

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
