crashed matrix-6R

anyone know if there's any way to revive one?
the screen just shows symbols and it doesn't respond to any midi data.

does using a software editor cause corruption in these?

any help is appreciated!

press Store while powering up to do a factory reset. you will have to reload the patches after that, but at least you will see if memory corruption is causing your strange behavior. -pc

My Matrix 6r does this sometimes if it is getting any MIDI data in or if it
comes up with too many other things at the same time on a power-up. Try
turning it off and letting it sit for a moment, then turning it back on to
see how it comes back up.

It's coming on with nineteen other devices when I hit that power button, so
I just turn it off before everything else and turn it on by itself after
things are powering up and it tends to come up fine. (I turn it on right
after I start the samplers on their program loads and set the digital
reverb's MIDI channel so that everything has time to come up -- by that time
the Kurzweil modules have passed their relay trigger and so there's no more
bumps in the power path)

thanks - i'm familiar with the problem of it getting overloaded on power-on, i've had to power it off and let it sit for a few pretty consistently too.

but the system reset worked - i had to do it a couple of times, but it worked the second time. maybe holding it down longer (with the flashing '@' symbol) helped.

thanks!!

The matrix have a recurent problem with Eprom support. Put out the Eproms, clean all supports replace Eprom and enjoy....!

If the problem keeps happening, it could be the battery.

It has a lithium battery, and when they die, it's like they have full
power then lose it quickly.

For awhile, mine would let me load patches, then when I'd restart, I'd
get the gibberish. It would let me load a bank via midi when powered up,
but lose it after powering down. That kind of thing.

The battery in mine was maybe spot-welded in, and I ended up replacing
the battery holder too. They had one at Radio Snack. It's a common
battery you can get off the rack at a grocery or variety store. CR-232
or something.
