Cocoa based M 6 Patch Editor/Librarian

Cocoa based M 6 Patch Editor/Librarian

2005-06-30 by rakker16mm

Hi All,

I am working on a Patch Editor/Librarian for the Matrix 6 to run on OSX based Macs. It will
start off as a bare bones application with minimal features. I am writing it in Cocoa so that it
can be easily expanded over time to become more full featured. Eventually there will a
feature where the user can add sliders, switches and knobs to control other MIDI devices.

If any one is interested in this project please contact me through this group. At the moment I
am trying to track down as much information as possible on the SysEx protocol for the M
6/6R. I am also interested in the SysEx for other Oberheim boxes such as the Matrix 1000
and Matrix 12.

Thanks

James

Hi James

I once made a sysex-based editor for the 6/6r on the PC1600. Pressing the
buttons would take you to a differerent Parameter page on the 6R, and
moving the sliders let you change those parameters.

I believe that info was in the Midi/sysex spec for the 6/6R.

Hi Tony,

Do you know where I can get a hold of the Midi/sysex spec for the 6/6R?

The documentation (user manual) I have does not cover the SysEx. So I've been googling
on the web as well as using a Midi monitor to listen to the Matrix. The problem is this
takes a lot of extra time I would rather be spending building the project.

Hi James,

As the owner of two M6R's an Xpndr and an OSX Mac, I am very interested
in this project. Sounds like a fun undertaking! Maybe we will get a
patch editor that recognizes that the Oby's first patch is 00. <g>

There's a chance I still have the document, but I'm leaving for vacation today.
Ping me around the 15th if you haven't found it yet.

Thank you Tony,

I'll do that. I am making some progress by working the
problem from several fronts. Its slow going but it is
going.

Re: [oberheim] Re: Cocoa based M 6 Patch Editor/Librarian

BTW, I'm working on an OB8 patch translator, but I'm doing it in Python, so
it will by cross-platform.
But I only get 1-2 hours a week to work on it, so progress is really slow,
and I haven't worked on it in a few months :(
(mostly because I got a new synth) :-)

My initial version will just translate the OB8 patches to text or HTML, no GUI.
Later I may add a gui for editing the patches.
The OB8 has almost no UI, other than some leds, so this translator will
show you all patch settings in text, at a glance.

Cocoa based M 6 Patch Editor/Librarian

2005-07-11 by rakker16mm

Hi All,

Now that I have mapped out the SysEx commands things are moving rite along at this point
and the first bits of the patch editor program should be ready for testing soon.

Basically the first test will be a very small program to adjust only one parameter. Step two will
be to expand that function to all the parameters.
