My Old Poly

My Old Poly

2010-05-02 by luca b

Hi!

My Polysix have the G notes NOT sounding at all..Exactly, one G every 2..(i.e.: G2, G4, and G6 NOT Playing. In emergency, I can "fix" it beating very tough in the left part of the panel, close to the LFO section (like in the very very old televisions), but sometimes it does not work. Where is the problem? Thank you, and sorry for my bad english.

Hi,

Your English is better than my Italian! Please don¹t beat your Polysix! It
is nearly 30 years old and liable to cause other problems. If every other G
is dead then we must suspect signal path from the key switch matrix to the
keyboard CPU. Well, that would be a good start! If you are confident with
lifting the top cover then a nice easy start would be to check the cables
and plug that run from the keyboard down to the large circuit board on the
right (connector CN04). Before you do this however, please make sure the
Polysix is disconnected from the mains supply! There is usually a connector
at the keyboard end as well. It might be worth disconnecting both ends and
perhaps using a little alcohol based contact cleaner spray before you
reconnect. Give this a try first and let me know how you get on, but do be
careful! If you can¹t work out which connector I am talking about then let
me know and I will send you some pictures.

Best regards,
Andy
