i use 720 only disks!

my manuals are packed away  try later after the move!!

there's a chunk of it dedicated to disc ops display codes.... looking at
that again, it occurs to me to suggest you might be seeing "Fd" (format
disc) with the display missing a LED. is the display ok in other modes?
