New Prophet 2000 Site

New Prophet 2000 Site

2003-08-18 by Torbjörn Frisk

Hi Prophet 2000 Lovers!

Couldn't find so much about Prophet 2000 on Internet (some nice sites
where there, for intsance FTG Prophet 2000 - great site!). So I put
up one at my website http://www.soundofmusic.se > Synth & Such.
Welcome!

I bought the Prophet 2000 when it was new, sold it and for a week ago
get it back (for free - unfortunately without the manual) after
almost 15 years. It was much better than I remembered it - I have
lived night and day with it now for this week and love it - especial
the filters and VCAs, it's really nice. The way to work with it was
immediately remembered = very good interface on Prophet 2000.

I also made an inventory and tweaked the presets of my old diskettes
from the 80s. And they sounds really nice now. If someone is
interested of these I sell them at cost price (more info at the
webpage).

Hope you'll enjoy this site. I'm also glad for your response.

Best Regards!

/Toby

If you like FTG Prophet 2000 so much, it's extremely bad manners to
plagarise it. You quite obviously copied the compatible floppy list because
it's carried over the mis-spelling of Canon, and the Sound Of Sound article
still has the credit that Andrew originally gave me when I transcribed it
for him. I don't remember you asking me if it would be alright for you to
use it too.

That sounds not good. I'm sorry to hear that - and excuse me if I
tread on your toes. My purpose with the P2K page is not competition,
I'm not that kind of person (but I can be if someone is stupid and
challenge me). Therefore I also said that FTG is a great P2K site. I
could omit that (SO good is it not, I just encurage you a little
bit)...

The main part of all info at my P2K page (as well as almost the main
part at everything at my site or my lectures and masterclasses) is my
own research. But information is not patent, at least not when it's
public and/or common. I have self tried more than one of the floppy
dives at that list (and now even more) and can now testify about that
as well as someone else. And I can write about my experiences. But
anyway, I don't want to make you, or anybody else mad, so I apologize.

I don't think persons outside Sound On Sound shall have credits for
what Sound On Sound publish. In that case I "transribed" the floppy
drive list when I copied what you wrote... I have given credits to
the author, thats Sound On Sound. But again, I'm sorry if I made you
mad and beg to be excused. I'm sorry to hear about competition from
you in this thing, very sorry.

But perhaps somebody else will be helped and/or encourage of what I
write, and will not se it mean or selfish but as an helping hand.

Best regards!

You're missing the point. It's got nothing to do with ownership, it's to do
with basic politeness and the ethics of ripping off the work that someone
else has done to try and make information accessible and then to try and
pass it on as the result of your effort, on a commercial site of all things.
The correct way of 'transcribing' (the phrase you're looking for is copying
and pasting by the way, transcribing is taking a printed document and
converting into to text, which is what I did) would have been to link to the
original source of the information you didn't collect yourself.

Incidentally, I am not the owner of the site, I just helped out with the SOS
article.

I don't wanna fuss here in this forum, but you wrote against my info
public (I prefere personal things private via e-mail or between 4
eyes when possible).

>.. as the result of your effort, on a commercial site of all things.

My site is not a commercial, it's just hobby, my way of "coolecting
stamps" and nonprofit. The diskettes (and the CD) are the first
things I ever sell since I started the site for soon 3 years ago. And
thats more as an service, I don't make any money there. I have never
done a penny from my site - until this day (and the diskettes don't
run at a profit).

I'm surprised!!!

But I hope we can be friends!

Toby,

Your site is cool.

However, it would have been polite to credit where you have "borrowed" the information from (my site).
The content is not copyright and is there for all to share, but it's simply in the spirit of the open sharing
nature of the internet to credit your sources. You're clearly not that new to the internet so I was surprised you hadn't
and instead simply linked to my site (which is in need of an update).

Otherwise, nice work.

Andrew

welcome to link my page if u want.

I hope the audience here had enjoy the thrilling machination - just
like a real soap opera (including small advertising when opening the
messages). Don't miss next thrilling episode of "The Prophet2000".
Right now we're looking for actors and walkers-on to next season
of "Prophet2000"- send a description and a photo of yourself and a
handdrawn picture (2x2" - with the modulation wheel visible) of your
Prophet2000 to info@... with the subject "I want to be a
star, and I want my credits now". Maybe You will be the happy one. We
love you!! God bless America!!!... ;-)

I'm sorry, my imagination runs riot...

Best Regards!

I definately like the site you put up. It's very handy to have a
fresh site with a collection of all that information somewhere. I
would have done the same thing myself had I the time. The other
sites are nice but seem incomplete to me. Now all that is needed is
a scan of the manual!

To the others with their sites, take it easy. Yeah, he should credit
whomever he got the information from, but there's no reason to be
snippy about it. No one is going to get famous, make money, or win
awards with a site on the Prophet 2000. This is an aging but
beautiful machine with little support save for what you can buy from
Wine Country, and I doubt many of us can afford to pay for the
equivalent in support that a healthy user community can provide (like
this, or the Mirage, the Poly 800, the Roland D-50, etc., etc., ad
infinitum).

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
