The 3379 VCF/VCA is very sonically related to the 3372, which is found in the T8, 600 and VS.
Given the typical 2000/2 used pricing (around $US200), they are the cheapest way to get the Prophet sound.

It has a simple modulation scheme, but a great tone.

A 2000 and 2002 would get you an 8 voice configuration (extending Duncan\u2019s advice) for the price of a beat up 600

The manual (another brilliant work by Stanley Junglieb, as usual) will be the only manual you will ever need to read on sampling (of any instrument).

than anything I have in my big emu samplers. the filters & VCAs are
curtis chips, the same as in the prophet synths, so the 2000/2002 can
be thought of as (broadly speaking) a prophet 5 with samples in place
of the oscillators.

I believe the manual is in the files section- it's worth a look, if
you've got some reading time to spare...

that hadn't occurred to me to mention- but it's absolutely true. I had
spent a few hours playing with an s900 before I got my 2002. after
working through the 2002 manual (& the quick guide, in the files
section, is a sort of executive summary/reminder), I was not only able
to drive the 2002 fully & confidently, but every other sampler I've
ever used, including the same P.O.S akai s900.

another thing- the 2002 operating system (did stanley have a hand in
this too?) is so straightforward that after many years away from the
instrument, I was able to x-fade/loop, map & tweak my samples like an
expert all over again.
good enough for stevie wonder, plenty good enough for me.
