[vintagesynthrepair] Yamaha TX 816 makes loud high pitch sound

2006-03-16 by Brinkmann Music

Assuming the TX816 is "vintage." Anyway, 30 minutes after powerup, the unit itself (not thru audio outs) lets out a loud sustained steady high pitched tone- killer on the ears. It is impossible to isolate exactly where in the unit the sound originates, but it is coming from the physical unit itself. ; Powered unit down, waited about 10 minutes and on powerup, all O.K. ; Then about 60 minutes later, same thing. Next day, been on for 4.5 hours so far- all O.K.
Never got any error codes, internal bats are all good. The power supply was just replaced on unit.
Anyone have any ideas on possible cause/remedy? Or is this a freak incident? Anything else peculiar to these units to watch for?
My only guess is it had just come in from the cold and a long UPS transit prior to powerup. Maybe needs to acclimate?
TIA!
