Hi D , It sounds like one of the keyboard contact springs is permanently making contact with CV buss bar . Remove the bottom cover and check to see if the bottom keys' CV spring isn't clashing with the CV buss bar (thats the rod towards the front that runs the length of the keyboard ) . Many thanks James walker Synth Repair Services. We can supply 1000's of service / user manuals and hard to find parts for many synthesisers and vintage electronic music equipment .

hi! just wanted to let y'all know how i fixed my mini! i screwed off the bottom plate and inspected it... as i couldn't seen anything wrong i unplugged the connecter form the keyboard to the rest of the of the synth! it was really oxidiced, so i decided to try to clean it with some steelwool! after i did that and put everything baco together my minimoog is playing perfectly again!!!! i decided to go ahead and do the same thing with all the connectors! it made my mini less noisy and more stable! -just wanted to let you know Daniel --- In vintagesynthrepair@yahoogroups.com, "daniel_muschinsky" <daniel@s...> wrote: > > Hi! > > my minimoog started acting op the other day! > > it plays the same note nomatter what key im pressing! > > is there an easy fix, 'cos i'm on tour at the moment, and can't wait

Hi Daniel Not normally to be recommended as these connectors are usually plated with some form of precious metal, could be gold, rhodium or silver. Wirewool will remove this plating and the connectors will probably give a lot more trouble in a short time. The correct method of cleaning is to use a contact cleaner/lubricant. I only hope you haven't done too much damage. Regards Brian _____

oh oh!!! hope i didn't ruin something! i only scratched it lightly though! otherwise i'll have to replace those connectors if they start to fail... thanks for your advice! by the way. i wouldn't dream of using steelwool on the printboards! i've used an eraeser on that, but it was to big for the connectors, so i couldn't use it... *Never* use steel wool to clean up connectors. Even assuming a steel hair doesn't short out something you'd rather not have shorted, you're coating/embedding the contact with steel, which *will* rust. It may work well for a while, but you've guaranteed future trouble. If mechanical cleaning is necessary, I'd recommend ScotchBrite instead of steel wool. I cut a pad or strip, squirt some CAIG Labs ProGold or DeOxIt onto the ScotchBrite, and then do the rubbing. Seems not to leave any bad things behind, and if you don't get too aggressive (ScotchBrite comes with a range of grits, just like sandpaper and steel wool) you'll leave the plating on the connector, assuming the plating survived the corrosion that caused the poor connection in the first place. It's really a pity that connectors didn't use stainless steel; would have prevented a lot of problems. Th.B. Nast Seattle At 03:18 AM 5/7/2005, you wrote:
