Reintroducing myself/ Sound Doctorin'

2013-10-25 by <sounddoctorin@...>

As some of you may know I generated the original 'comprehensive' tech assistance page sharing tips on the massive number of machines I've gotten into the details on and other people's experiences who would contribute. There are also lots of hard to find parts and a key cross reference that I personally researched out most of the information on. Before that even Roland had no idea which units were compatible with which without getting all the manuals out and comparing numbers and even then some of them changed...

Anyway I've been traveling a bit and even doing some gold prospecting where I found a buried creek bed full of gold bits...building a 4wd vehicle up etc. this summer. Trying to get back into a serious synth-binge again :-) Listed a bunch on ebay the other day. And modding an arp quartet at the moment for somebody after finally getting it running ok (Video on the weirdness to be posted to sounddoctorin youtube as soon as I conclude the project).

I've been overwhelmed even with the volume from sdiy which became more and more volume talking about things that don't really concern me much. Recently a guy who charged back an order and left me with a -267.00 deficit (paypal at least gave back the 20.00 service charge when they realized I'd been scammed )...and then he came into sdiy. Probably knowing I'd discuss the elephant in the room... and Rick the manager booted me out for giving a relatively BRIEF exposure to what he'd done (documented on my 'deadbeat' link from sounddoctorin.com/synthtec/synth.htm page . I've had two people do this through paypal to me know. Getting way old. I can't afford it right now having a lot of other unexpected expenses with car cracking a head etc.)

Anyway beware of using paypal. The cc company can just steal the money right back and the guy keeps the merchandise. Not a thing I can do unless I travel to Netherlands apparently. He just ignores me.

Very very sorry to hear this story.
Couldn’t you find a way somehow to eliminate the bad guys from the good so that I could still have a chance to order parts from you should need be?
How do the other providers on the NET manage to sell safely?

Best regards,
Noel

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By selling only a few items, so that the law of averages doesn't catch up with them. I'm sure that all the big volume sellers occasionally fall victim to thieves. Human nature hasn't changed a bit in 10,000 years, and the internet can't fix that. I'm just sorry to hear about Bob Weigel falling victim to this, I've gotten to respect him a lot over in the Combo Organ group.

Sorry to hear that, as a 50 year old I will not even use paypal. I will usually call on a phone and talk to a live person, and order over the phone.

Anyhow, it saddens me that people will do international scams...it will add up on their karma account.

It's not strictly a Paypal issue. I've used Paypal since 2001 [back before they were owned by ebay and there were a lot of Paypal problems]. I've also used other credit card processing companies for my business, including TransLink [avoid!] and others. Only big processing companies that are socking you huge fees every month will eat a moderate chargeback. Paypal is the only one I'm still doing business with, as they seem to be the lesser of the evils (at least for a small business). Unfortunately, I've had enough problems with overseas transactions that I will not send anything overseas which has value of more than a few dollars, and that I can't easily replace when the recipient claims they never received the item (as buyers rarely want to pay for a service which provides international tracking to the destination).

Yeah same here pretty much. A guy from France just used security double envelope to send cash the other day. That's fine with me. Not many people have the guts to do that though. I used to send stuff out multiple things daily typically. I send out about one or two a WEEK now! Combination of the postal prices all going up and people like Valentijn ruining it for everyone.

Whatever. Let people order from less honest people. I never run out of stuff to do here. lol. The guy managed to get my video exposing the blatant theft pulled off every site...I finally had to lodge it on my own site sounddoctorin.com. This guy is seriously scared about losing his reputation YET HE TURNED DOWN a 50.00 solution (what I offered for sending out 6 more sheets..way below my lowest quantity discount)

It's just so bizarre... His reputation is only worth $50?? Or however many Euros? I can't help but think he just had delusions of ripping off my whole invention. Now he's probably finding out that he can't get the material anywhere... I wish a bunch of people would write to him and ask him why he did this...

I can't figure where the context of this went? sounddoctorin.com/synthtec/deadbeat.htm has the whole story pretty much anyway. I see Jack Valentijn posts a 'ripoff report' to try to seek vengeance against me for finally getting paid for at least the parts he admitted receiving. lol.

The 6 sheets of contact material that allegedly got lost he didn't have to pay for. So how is it that I've ripped HIM off? Hmmm. Well anyway if anyone sees that read my rebuttal which is an open letter to Jack asking him to answer the obvious questions...

Noel, unfortunately most of them just jack up the shipping price and people pay for it over the years a large amount of money. STILL though if they want they can write their credit card company, claim 'item not as represented' and it creates an inordinate hassle for the seller since they have no way to prove that the person isn't lying. Most commerce depends on the vast majority of buyers not being like this guy Jack Valentijn who MOCK the ordering instructions and just make up their OWN rules...

Anyway most people wont' go that the insane extent this guy's pride has led him to be a pain over a 50 dollar discrepancy caused either by him or the postal service. Whatever the case... i've never had trouble with a person who will TALK to me in the first place. Both people who have jacked me over like this have talked *around* what I said. Eg. I try to get them to tell ME what kind of shipping they want and they give a vague 'oh that's ok' answer instead of saying 'yes I want to take responsibility if it gets lost and not pay the extra 18.00' or whatever. IF they say the latter I've never had a problem.

I avoid both Paypal and eBay like the plague for the same reason you've experienced. In my case the means through with Paypal allowed me to be scammed was a car I sold on eBay. The car got picked up, but no money was ever released to the seller (me).
