This may have been asked before. Apart from size, what is the difference between the 1200 and 300 Borg filter, I see the 300 has more jacks so I assume you will be able to do more? If I create my own box for say 5 300 series can I put a 2 Frac WIards on top of each other to measure the same height as 1 300 series, or will it be out? Has anyone done this with home made cabinets?

The 300 series Borg is a dual module, i.e. it is really like two 1200 series borgs in one box. It also has two LFOs on-board (that produce Triangle, Sawtooth, and Square wave outputs). --- In wiardgroup@yahoogroups.com, "cray5656" <amni56@...> wrote:

Borg: 200ms response time, 2 filters per module, 2 built in LFOs, and a multiple. Borg 2: 20ms response time, 1 filter per module, no LFO, no mult. > If I create my own box for say 5 300 series can I put a 2 Frac WIards on > top of each other to measure the same height as 1 300 series, or will it > be out? Has anyone done this with home made cabinets? Height appears to work (see the pix section of the Yahoo group page for examples). If for some reason you went vertical however, it would be off; a 19" rack holds 6 of the 300 series modules, but only 5 of Frac. Paul

So, he says knowing nothing about electronics, couldnt you just replace the opto-isolator in the 300 series on one side so you have 2 versions in the one module?

If you go with the 300 Series form factor, you can get Grant to special order your 1200 modules in a dual module faceplate - I have a Boogie Flter LP/HP pair and a Borg 2 filter pair, both installed as 300 series modules - I intend to eventually have at least one more dual Borg 2.... gary "cray5656" <amni56@...> wrote:

As far as response time goes, you are correct for the existing (currently circulating) 300 series modules. I'm not sure if that statement is correct for a freshly minted one. I suspect a new Borg 300 would have the same vactrols as the ones found in the 1200 series. This will have to be addressed by Grant for the correct answer though. --- In wiardgroup@yahoogroups.com, damon <damon@...> wrote:

In a word - NO - 8*) (Of course, I asked this question of Grant more than a year ago, or he would have bene able to simly modify the Borg 1). gary "cray5656" <amni56@...> wrote:

Hi 'cray' --- In wiardgroup@yahoogroups.com, "cray5656" <amni56@...> wrote: > > So, he says knowing nothing about electronics, couldnt you just > replace the opto-isolator in the 300 series on one side so you have 2 > versions in the one module? > This is very unlikely. Speaking in generalities, electronic circuits tend to be interdependent like eco-systems. You can't just swap out the Whooping Cranes for Snapping Turtles without creating a whole cascade of downstream consequences. Vactrols are especially finicky about their support circuitry and sometimes vary wildly from one unit to another -with the same part number- ! i've never seen the versions of any of the production Borg schematics but i'd take an educated guess that they differ significantly , at least in the LED-element driver sections. i've learned the hard way that mods are never simple .... especially the simple ones! ;'> -doc
