I agree- you'll want the Protean Drum rom. I don't play guitar, so I use a sampler (Boss, SP-505) to get "live played" l guitar riffs to work with. (let me know if you want more info. on this) I have two other roms- XL & PK-6. I haven't found a way to use the heavy guitar type presets so that they sound good/realistic. The muted/acoustic guitar presets are good/useable, though. That's my 2-cents. mike > The XL-7 (or any other EMU command station) is - in my opinion - a very nice > Sequencer for making music in general. > The problem with the genre you are interested in is, that the XL-7 has > mostly electronic sounds (it uses the X Lead V2 Rom). > If you want to produce metal/rock music you would like to have some extra > ROMs/sound boards which have good guitar sounds/more acoustic drum sounds on > them. > I think the "Protean drums ROM" would feed your need for the drum sounds you > are looking for and the "Vintage ROM" (if I recall correctly) and "Sounds of > the ZR ROM" could probalby give you some guitar/bass sounds you would like > to have.
