These can originate from any combination of the PC or the KARMA when you are using the PC running your sequencer. The 2x2 setup per my recommendation in the previous posy will work quite well to do what you are looking to do, and you will not be required to change cables. the only advantage you could gain from adding any additional hardware, or changing the configuration would be to take advantage of the XL-7's 32 channel sequencing capabilities. The current setup will at most allow the XL-7 to control only 16 channels of external MIDI, either on the PC or in the KARMA in any combination. If you add an additional single input MIDI interface to your PC you could then send 32 channels to the PC which could be split between the KARMA (full 16) and software instruments. An alternative would be the following configuration using the single 2x2: XL-7 MIDI OUT A -> MIDI SPORT IN A XL-7 MIDI OUT B -> KARMA MIDI IN KARMA MIDI OUT -> MIDI SPORT IN B MIDI SPORT OUT B -> XL-7 MIDI IN MIDI SPORT OUT A -> (not used) This lets you have the XL-7 control both 16 KARMA channels and 16 PC software instrument channels at the same time. It also lets the KARMA control either the PC or the XL-7. The THRU button trick mentioned previously still works so the XL-7 and the KARMA can play together without recabling and the computer out of the picture. What do you loose? The KARMA can not be directly controlled by the PC. All KARMA control will have to originate or pass through the XL-7. Given how inexpensive USB MIDI interfaces are these days I would recommend adding an additional MIDI port to the PC and bringing in the XL-7 B output that way. That would give you the most flexibility and power. drk www.delora.com/music www.mp3.com/zdrk drk.iuma.com
