Hi all (bit of a newbie on this group) If you can still find it (it's been discontinued, but still seems to be in a lot of shops, at least here in the UK) then the Mackie LM3204 does a similar job to the Speck, for about a quarter of the price! Gorgeous little mixer... I'm looking to get one in the next few weeks. Personally, I use Soundcraft Spirit mixers, which are great, although the band I was in had a few Behringers, which were OK for live use (bit noisy for recording). Then again, I think Spirit mixers are a lot cheaper in the UK than they are in the US, relatively speaking at least. For monitors, best decent priced ones I've heard are the Mackie HR624's... I don't like the Alesis ones either. Tannoy Reveal are OK, as are Behringer Truth. Sorry, I don't know much about passive monitors, I've not used any for a long while.
