not sure what you mean, but if you're talking about sequencing MIDI vs. audio, the difference is that with MIDI you'll still need the XL to play back the track once you've recorded on the computer, but if you record audio, the XL becomes expendable (fie!) after the track is completed. me, i try to get as far in a mix as i can in MIDI before recording everything to audio for effects processing and whatnot, mostly because i want to be able to reproduce the song/track "live" from my synths without much of a change in sound. but that's just me. and my songs kinda suck at the moment, so take that with large amount of sodium chloride...

I'm assuming your actually serious here?
MIDI = control information, digital data that 'tells' things to play. You would need to have your station hooked up to the computer to play it back.
Audio = actual wave information, you could play it back without your station.

Any more information you need can be found all over the web, I'm surprised you weren't able find the info anyway, did you look?

Don't worry about it there are a lot of people who don't know the
difference between MIDI and Audio and it is more confusing because
when you play a midi file on your computer you hear sound.

like Wesley D said midi is not audio but is information. if you send
a midi sequence to your XL7 it will sound different that if you sent
the same midi sequence to a redsound elevata. that is because midi
basically just tells the thing recieving it what keys were pushed.
It does take a little bit to get your head around it. It does much
more than that but that is the basics. it aslo sends start ans stope
information and timecode info. so if you had 2 xl-7s you could
connect them via midi and press play on one and both would start at
the same time and would play at the same tempo.
