command station newbie

command station newbie

2004-12-27 by dclowerstx

Hello,
I'm new to the group here and I think it's great. I just recently
picked up a used MP-7, to replace my good ole Alesis MMT-8. I quickly
loaded the MP-7 up with my World Exp, Beat Garden and Pop ROMs and
have been having a blast with it. Killer box. I'm familiar with the
P2K synth architecture, just trying to learn the sequencer part of
it.

I have a couple of newbie questions. I cant seem to get the MP-7 to
respond to the mod wheel on my Evolution MIDI keyboard. Patches in
which the mod wheel worked fine when the ROMs were in my Proteus 2000
do not respond to mod wheel at all in the MP-7. The other controller
knobs on the Evolution work fine though. I've tried everything I can
think of to get it to work. Any ideas?

The other thing I haven't been able to figure out is how to delete a
song (other than reinitializing the whole box). The manual is
strangely silent on this (or I overlooked it).

Any help appreciated!

Dale

Sounds like you have some great ROMS. I had an MMT-8, too. Until
it died. I may still have the shell. If your electroncs work, and
its only the pads that are messed up, maybe you could use mine--for
the cost of shipping.

As for the mod wheel problem, check all settings. Is keyboard
transmitting CC#1 [mod wheel]? Is anything blocking the CC data?
Does preset have a patch cord that assigns mod wheel to the synth
engine?

Is it possible you changed the CC# on the keyboard and the P2K?

Hope this helps.

Ooops. Typo. Correction follows:

You can erase each track in a pattern/song, or you can copy an empty
pattern/song to the slot you want to delete.

Can you change your number of control on your evolution. If yes program this on the same number on the xx7 and so you will receice external control.

Perhaps your modwheel controler on your keyboard is different on the xx7. So try to assign the number of the cc on your xx7 and you will receive modwheel control change on your command station.

figured it out

2004-12-28 by dclowerstx

Steve,
Thanks, I figured out the mod wheel issue. I had to assign it to CC#
1 on the Evolution and then it started controlling the MP-7. When I
got the Evolution originally though, I just plugged it into the P2K
and the mod wheel worked with the default settings. Thats why I was
confused. I dont remember changing it, but maybe I did accidentally at
some point. Anyway thanks for your responses.

And thanks for your offer. My MMT-8 still works fine, but its got
such a small amount of memory you cant save much work into it. Great
design though, so easy to use.

Peace,
Dale

Glad to hear you got it working! E-Mu's P2k based synth engine uses
a number of standard CCs, but you have flexibility to set virtually
any controller to a whole slew of parameters via patchcords.

Just copy a blank Song over the one you want to delete :)
