UNofficial New OS

UNofficial New OS

2005-11-03 by lifeistheformofenergy

I am just wondering what other people out there would like to see in a
new os - I personally think that it would be good to have a boot
password that you could either enter on the pads or scroll through and
enter before the os would boot if so desired in the global settings ...

more midi functions for the trigger buttons like switching controllers so no
other tools need to be involved rounting midi multple destinations and some
other stuff i cant think of atm :P i'll be making some music today so i
might have more suggestions.

Is someone making a new OS?

Does someone else have the tools to make a new OS?

Has Emu said they might make a new update?

Or else what is the use in this exercise?

Just asking....

I'd like to see a Flam button/function. Its a bitch programming them
in there. And it would be cool to be able to start a sequence at its
begining whenever I press the trigger button. Now that I think about
it I guess I could program an arpeggio. Does anyone know exactly how
to do what I'm thinkink of doing? I don't know. I'm thinking of alot
of tricks I might be able to do. If I can just make the time some
time to do it. Peace Out! Brando.

Oh P.S. I'd also like to see a way to move the cursor to the 4th beat
32nd note positions in the Grid record. Right now I'm play'n it, then
stopping it when the light gets there. I don't like doing it that
way. And it would also be cool to get some new sounds. Although, I
know how much we all like to make our own.

good ideas but one thing.
the repeat button in the grid sequencer is a flam in its own right,
isnt it?

-Cut/copy and paste a part of a track under one bar, 1/2 bar, 1/4 bar.
-Ask for save preset change when save a pattern.
-Transpose note in a part of a track,ex: transpose note to c1 from bar 4 thru 8.
-Loop a track on himself, if it isnt at the same size that the other.

And i think that i m forget some other...

well if you think about it with some common sense maybe if we all
come up with some really good ideas and throw in some money like $5
ea or something people might be willing to do it ...

OK...I know where there is a will, and of course, there might be a way, so rather than being a critic or pessimist. here are some ideas to get it done:

(1) Provide a proposal of the new improvements requested in the software OS to Emu and request an NRE (non recurring engineering) cost for the change. Ask for the rights to re-sell the new OS (my estimate is $30 to $75) to re-coup costs of the NRE.

(2) Request the source code and a compiler license from Emu in return for a fixed fee per license sold of the new compiled OS. There are a number of us in the group, myself included, capable of coding the changes in whatever language that was originally used. We could divide up the project among our few group programmers.....

(3) Find the the original coder at Emu and offer him about $50 x 100 users to take on the project. Of course, project management will be required with schedules and milestones. Otherwise, it might take him a few years and by that time, we might have sold our command station.

(4) There are other possibilities....

Without the original source code, it will take hundreds and hundreds of hours to reverse engineer the code at the machine code level.

Re: UNofficial New OS

dunno if youve ever hearda it but kx project at
http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/
is an open source driver for soundblaster cards(emu dsp chips really)

and it's great cause you can do tons with it!! it's the best
soundcard i have and i dont think i'll ever get rid of it!!!(yeah i
said it)

here's a pic(dual monitor) of live on the right and my soundcards
patch interface and plugins all running soley on the dsp!!! aside
from graphics and stuff of course...

http://tinyurl.com/9pgwn

now i dunno if they got the source from creative or emu or if they
revverse engineered it but they do a hell of a job!!

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
