You will need to install EMU's E-Loader software that installs the drivers and the data transfer software. Not sure what the latest is with XP as some people had a few issues. Try it i guess, see what happens. --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "Carlos" <carlos_m_reyes_jr@...> wrote:

I think this is what the problem is,im sure others here will know. I think its an issue with SP2. I think it works with SP1. If i recall SP2 broke a lot of music software in other areas at the time. I thought i had my XL7 working with my laptop with XP/SP2 though. l'll have a look over the weekend. Not sure what would happen if you made XP use the drivers, guess it would flag an error and still not work. Does the software actually run ok? If you search back through the achives theres loads on the subject. Have you tryed it on a USB V1.0 port? say use an older hub on a USB 2 port. --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, Carlos Reyes <carlos_m_reyes_jr@...> wrote: > > Thanks For the info Tried but still not working... You can't download OSes with USB, you must use MIDI. Only thing you can do with USB is up/download songs and patterns. -Aaron

Every couple of years I try to install the usb drivers on an XP computer. I have never been able to get it to work--despite several attempts to trick Windows into accepting the drivers. Others here have reported success, though. Not sure if its the usb 1.0/usb 2.0 issue or the SP1/SP2 issue. One option would be to use a Win98SE computer. You can probably find one for $5.00 - $10.00, less than the price of a usb cable. If you don't mind a slow transfer rate for backing up patterns and sequences, you can use midi on the XP machine.

Just tryed this quickly on my XP laptop and E-Loaders not working anymore. Its having problems picking up the USB midi ports, in and out looking at the log file. On mine in the midi setup you can select USB '0' as the input port but i only USB '0'is in the list, USB '1' doesnt appear. If i select USB '0' for the output port it drops it and says none. What was all that USB '0' and '1' port thing about i cant remember? Should port 1 be the output? In device manager when the command station is plugged in via USB both emu usb midi ports show up, '0' and '1' and the command station appears as a USB composite device. Plugging in a Midiman 1X1 USB to midi interface works fine, everything seems to be working. Like Steve says it might be slower but at least you can back the machine up and dump to it. Repluging things might be a pain though, depends how you've got things plugged up i guess. So there must be some sysex strings you can send to initiate either a pattern / song dump request all or single? So i wonder if its the EMU midi USB drivers are at fault seeing as the Midiman USB port works? This should be repairable should'nt it? I wish i could code better, maybe its time learn.. --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "steve_the_composer" <smw-mail@...> wrote: > > Every couple of years I try to install the usb drivers on an XP > computer. Ive got E-Loader working on the win2K SP4 machine here. Seems to be working fine with USB. Might be a better option than win98, which is the last O/S i used E- Loader on myself as it goes. Im going to have another go with XP on the laptop when i get a chance. --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "steve_the_composer" <smw-mail@...> wrote: > > Every couple of years I try to install the usb drivers on an XP > computer.
