OT: Screwy XK-6 ROM Deal?

OT: Screwy XK-6 ROM Deal?

2002-07-22 by biomecha00

I know this is slightly off topic but...

EMU's dropped the price of their XK-6 keyboard to $599 and Zzounds
(and other resellers) are advertising a free EMU ROM with every
keyboard. This ROM deal is through EMU, but if you look at the
official EMU site (www.emu.com) you'll see the following:

"Buy a PK-6, XK-6, MK-6 or Halo Keyboard over US$800 between June 1
and August 31, 2002 from any participating E-MU/ENSONIQ Dealer and
get your choice of any Proteus Expansion ROM."

Note the: OVER $800 USD!!!!!

What's the deal? My brother's planning to pick up his XK-6 this
weekend and he's expecting a free ROM with it.

Well now Zzounds product pages for the XX-6 keyboards say the
following, "***Note: Emu has halted their rebate program on this
item. You cannot get a free ROM for this keyboard at this time. It's
still a great deal at this price though!"

That's really clever; E-mu offers a rebate and adds a stipulation
that the keyboard must cost over $800, and it's now impossible to buy
one for $800. Great rebate.

I still haven’t even received my free ROM for my XL-7 purchase. I don’t think I’ll ever get it. What a scam.

Advertised by retailers as part of the deal, and refusing to honor the rebate(s). Nice move.

If you have followed the correct procedures and you qualify, your free
ROM will come. We honor all legitimate rebates.
