Maybe a dumb idea

Maybe a dumb idea

2002-07-24 by David Jones

today i got to thinking. I was talking to a friend that uses fruity loops and CUBASE. He produces great music and doesn't want any hardware. He was mentioning that since Cubase SX came out, he's been able to do awesome things. Also, Fruityloops is now a VSTI...
Wouldn't it be cool if the -7 was a VSTI? Being able to plug in via USB and just go with it from there would be kind of wicked. . . .
any thoughts?

Great idea but hardware is always more profitable than software.

I agree..
HOwever, I think that using the ACTUAL HARDWARE UNIT as part of the VSTi would be the key here. I think it would bridge the connection between the purist hardware freaks, and the digital computer freaks. I know i would flip HARDCORE!

I would flip just for the fact that I would then *HAVE* an XL7...

Ok, i don't mean a software version of the -7. What i would like to see is a vsti interface for existing -7's :)
or no?

Don't know about it being a VSTi, seems like impossible to me. Don't
forget I've got some Multi's in the folder area of this group too,
for controlling various VSti's with your XX-7. When I get back from
Pittsburgh on Monday, I'll upload some more that I made already for
the new SX instruments (A1, etc.).

YOU SEEM TO BE THE EXPERT WITH THIS UNIT SINCE IT CAME OUT. I CAN GET A HOLD OF MY COUSIN'S FROM TIME TO TIME, BUT HE'S HOLDING ME UP...WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST SOFTWARE VERSION OF THE MP-7. JUST A GOOD SEQUENCING TOOL FOR HIP-HOP TRACKS WITHOUT EXTRA HARDWARE, I TRIED A FEW...

Expert? No, I just like it :) If you get the Xl-7, I would
recommend you immediately install the 1.31 OS, available from the Emu
site. As for sequencing software, I completely recommend Cubase SX
(or SL if you don't need the extra features). It's by far the best
sequencing package I've used, although take that with a grai of salt
as it's just my opinion. If you're using a Mac, Digital Performer 3
is really nice too.

Re: [xl7] Re: Maybe a dumb idea

2002-07-26 by lawrence day

I'm serious considering taking my cousin's. He bought it so "we" can make a demo. This was back in March and he still can't even program a pattern. I love the thing, it's so easy to get used to. And he's just pissin me off with it. I make all the tracks and he expects to just come in and rap. The hell with that. This was supposed to be a group effort. But before it boils down to my last resort I also wanna check out the SP-808. Have you used it yet, if so whats your opinion.

Actually from a programming standpoint I don't see why not, all the newer
motherboards support USB 2.0 - You route the audio back out through this into
the computer, you're internal VST becomes a glorified dedicated midi controller
using the USB. You would probably experience some latency (Whatever buffer was
used by the driver) but this would be a lot like the TCWorks Powercore, only
USB.

RE: [xl7] Re: Maybe a dumb idea

Hey just read you're note, I have a SP808 Pro I am selling for $400 with the full i/o add on including digital (to record the XL7 digitally with no signal loss). Sounds incredible and has sweet effects. Let me know if you are interested... ;)

GET A HOLD OF MY COUSIN'S FROM TIME TO TIME, BUT HE'S HOLDING ME
UP...WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST SOFTWARE VERSION OF THE MP-7. JUST A GOOD
SEQUENCING TOOL FOR HIP-HOP TRACKS WITHOUT EXTRA HARDWARE, I TRIED A
FEW...
