Xpantastic!

Have you changed your encoders already?
The reason I ask,  This is how my encoders were behaving for awhile. (multiple 
clicks per Inc/Dec)  
Eventually  this got worse, so I pulled out my Oscilloscope and after some 
checking, I found 

the schmidt trigger chips, which de-bounce the encoder signals were failing.  I 
replaced all of these
and it's worked fine ever since. I have never cleaned em. And they have 
seen some heavy use for years now.
