I've always tried to get an even spread. with one or two voices sitting center and the rest gradually going L or R. you want at least one voice center so that you get better pan law definition. -omar --- sent from iPhone

does seem key to have 1 or 2 middle voices in there and does not seem to mess up the beautiful stereo spread as all.
I have experimented with L1, L2, R1, R2 a bit but still seem to have the L/R voices hard panned. (-)

also keep in mind that your voice pan settings also effects what type of sound you are using the Xpander for and how it will play into your mix. (eg...synth bass usually mono-centered, pads, arpeggios, etc being panned in a number of ways to get the space and dimension you want in your mix) the point being: don't feel that your pan settings have to be a hard set rule for all patches. set them accordingly for the specific sound you are tracking or using for the particular song you are writing. Obviously things can be fixed/corrected/change during mixdown, but always best to get it right straight from the synth itself. the Xpander gets very interesting when used as a monophonic synth for percussion, arpeggios, or other "plucky" type sounds and you set your zones to rotate in combination with setting each voice to a different pan setting. you get instant "ping-pong" type panning effects as each voice plays in succession. -omar --- sent from iPhone

that's only possible with the Matrix-12. Only way to do it with the Xpander is to create 6 variations of the same patch, each slightly detuned and assign them accordingly in multi-mode. Not as optimal, but it gets the same result. -omar --- sent from iPhone

No go because that\ufffds 7 voices\ufffd :-)
In single patch mode, when I play the Xpander as a poly synth,- I have 2 voices in center and pan the others to L2, L1 and R1, R2.
In multipatch mode there are more options.
Think about a 5 voice poly synth plays chords and there\ufffds a mono synth for leads or a bass sound.
In that case, the mono synth (1 voice) goes to a single out and the other 5 voices will be panned p.ex. L2,L1,C,R1,R2.
I also prefer not to use the extreme L & R settings.
Another idea is using the main stereo- and main mono-out simultaneously.
You can also use the main mono out as a send to an effects device (and/or have that sound in the center) while using the main stereo outs for the voice panning.
And when you have a monophonic patch running on a separate MIDI channel there\ufffds still the option to use one of the single outputs in addition and add dedicated FX there.
So, don\ufffdt forget the single outs of the Xpander which are extremely helpful when in multi patch mode.
