I believe that's the idea. It has been looked at and from my understanding possible, but I don't want to put word in the mouth or otherwise put the relevant geniuses on the spot. It does need to be pointed out though, that the economics of producing new batches of IG ICs would be EXCEPTIONALLY questionable. You've got a couple thousand of the target synths in the world, multiple ICs to re-do, and maybe something in the neighborhood of $100k fixed cost to produce a batch of parts - it would likely scale somewhat, but I mean that for EACH part. You can do the math on whether there's an eventual payback there, but silicons are all BIG companies - they're going to weigh this against other development option for profit potential, not pursue it because of how cool CS-80s are. This has been discussed in these threads before. The solution is clearly hoping for discrete replacements, and cannibalizing 60s and 80s in the meantime (a practice by the way which, over the next let's say 15 years can drastically reduce the market for new replacements be they discrete or ICs). I myself bought one of Rob's KCB boards, I think it was around $135... then I said "wait a minute - I can get a CS-50 for less than $500!!!". And I proceeded to do just that. Nice fully functional CS-50 for $485, hope many years go by before I have to cannibalize it. Not sure what that's worth now - it was less than two years ago when I got it - but I reckon a bunch more than $500. I estimated at the time there were around $1300 worth of parts in there. --- In yamahacs80@yahoogroups.com, blchrr@... wrote: > > It would be cool if some IC drop in could be made, maybe a pcb, with > discreet components for the vcos and wire it all up to the rest of the > spagetti.. > > Now that Juergen has one i feel a lot better about the future of the beast, > i know he will think of something clever.. > > What do you say juergen?? :) > > Whats after the frequency shifter pcb project :)))) > > > > > --- kent_spong <kent_spong@...> wrote: > >> Well only a few weeks ago I was emailed by a guy in > >> the US who > >> offered me $24,000 for my CS80 and guess what I said > >> no > > > > Heck, give him my email address.
