CS80 track uploaded to Soundcloud

2009-01-14 by Tim Siefkes

With all the recent activity and new posts of sound files lately, I was
inspired to throw one out of my own. This is not a new recording, but
something we did back in 1980 when the CS-80 was still fresh and some
mates and I were trying to form our "prog rock" band. There were only
three of us (we didn't even have a bass player yet), and another friend
who was taking a recording engineering class here needed Something to
record for a class project. So we eagerly volunteered to be that
"Something".

I remember our studio time was pretty limited and we didn't get endless
takes to polish things up, but here's a snapshot of what were doing. We
did four songs in that session, and this one is admittedly our most
ambitious piece at that time. Prog rock fans will undoubtedly detect our
major influences in there... I took all the vocal sections out as they
just made the piece much longer and this is about the CS-80, right? Even
after editing out the vocals out it's still about eight minutes long, so
here is the CS-80 in more of a rock context. We've had so many nice solo
tracks lately, I thought I'd put up something a little different.

As I said, our studio time was limited and this was on 1" 8-track tape
(so you can still hear the tape hiss in spots). We didn't get to do many
retakes... so warts and all, this was what we ended up with as our demo.
