Hi Everyone, I created an account on Soundcloud to use as a repository for short improvisations demonstrating some CS80 atmospheres. There you will find my initial post "CS80strident" and two new recordings. You can find it here: http://soundcloud.com/omegacode80 Cheers, Kent

I enjoyed listening to your tracks, Kent. Nice, clean recordings, and it was especially nice to hear such a very well-tuned CS80! This Soundcloud site is new to me, looks like a nice way to post some tracks. You guys who have all been posting and uploading files lately have been inspiring me to try and add some of my own. I really love hearing what everyone else is up to... -Tim S. omegacode80 wrote:

Glad to hear you enjoyed them, Tim. I will look forward to hearing something from you and others. Soundcloud is a great service. Interestingly enough my CS80 was shipped across the USA and arrived in tune. I guess it is a tribute to Craters & Freighters, the company that moved it via airplane. I did ask them to keep the synth horizontal, and chose air freight because I thought less bouncing around on trucks or trains across America would be better. The clean recording can be attributed to an RME Fireface 800. Kent On Jan 10, 2009, at 9:28 AM, Tim Siefkes wrote: > I enjoyed listening to your tracks, Kent. Especially enjoying the music, but also hearing the CS-80 demonstrated so capably. Thanks! David, this is really very cool!!! I like it a lot. The low end an the high bell-like tinkles are great. These synths have such a warmth and tone that its just non-describable. I think the CS50 might be more stable in tune due to better airflow in the cabinet. I don't think it's as packed in as the CS80. Thanks guys but Im more interested in your thoughts on my Yamaha SS30 strings soundbite The SS30 has basically 4 voice boards AND further divide down circuitry and uses a lot of the same parts and design concept as a CS-50/60 here is message # 2225 http://rcpt.yousendit.com/641707018/7c60021179c662bc179ad095a1867170 I got a message from Olivier who lives in Japan and is a synth dealer As for the Yamaha SS30, it's quite rare and...forgotten by everybody. Actually i never had one in my hands. There's one for sale in Japan at the moment but it's too expensive. Footnote The one in Japan for sale is by a CS-80 collector David On 14/01/2009, at 11:20 AM, Max Fazio wrote: > Great atmosphere! > M > ----- Original Message ----- > From: David > To: yamahacs80@yahoogroups.com > Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2009 1:18 PM > Subject: [yamahacs80] CS-50 soundbite > > https://rcpt.yousendit.com/641709320/7ac4468d8e2ee344df7f87cd1b8da6bd > > Not sure if the CS-50 needs tuning as much as CS-80 > This mp3 is all CS-50-no other synths used > > David > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

With all the recent activity and new posts of sound files lately, I was inspired to throw one out of my own. This is not a new recording, but something we did back in 1980 when the CS-80 was still fresh and some mates and I were trying to form our "prog rock" band. There were only three of us (we didn't even have a bass player yet), and another friend who was taking a recording engineering class here needed Something to record for a class project. So we eagerly volunteered to be that "Something". I remember our studio time was pretty limited and we didn't get endless takes to polish things up, but here's a snapshot of what were doing. We did four songs in that session, and this one is admittedly our most ambitious piece at that time. Prog rock fans will undoubtedly detect our major influences in there... I took all the vocal sections out as they just made the piece much longer and this is about the CS-80, right? Even after editing out the vocals out it's still about eight minutes long, so here is the CS-80 in more of a rock context. We've had so many nice solo tracks lately, I thought I'd put up something a little different. As I said, our studio time was limited and this was on 1" 8-track tape (so you can still hear the tape hiss in spots). We didn't get to do many retakes... so warts and all, this was what we ended up with as our demo. http://soundcloud.com/tim_s/m-33-instrumentaledit -Tim S.

Tim! You are a CS-80 God! Good stuff...Lots of influences there...PFM, Bruford,UK, National Health, to name a few. Thanks for sharing that. Any more gems like that in the vaults? Somebody should get together a compilation CD of all these wonderful files everyone's been bringing forth. It could be done on a yearly basis. Just a thought. Thank you gentlemen (at least, I don't think there are any ladies in this group... but please correct me) for your very kind comments! You all are way too generous. We did have a lot of fun rehearsing and putting that together, but sadly we didn't get to play it "live" more than a few times. A bit ambitious for the club circuit... but we did have some other originals as well as some fun covers (P. Gabriel, Jean-Luc Ponty, Gary Numan, UK). I'll look around and see what else I have to share up. Thanks Matrix, for putting that up on your blogspot. That was cool. And Tommy P. you certainly nailed a lot of my fave groups from that time period (and still listen to). Music is so much fun and our CS-80s make it that much more fun to play. Keep those soundfiles coming!! -Tim S.
