My study of the IG00153 VCO is here: http://www.cs80.com/vco.html The output ofthe 153 is a sawtooth. The output of the 158 is the inverted sawtooth. This is what goes to the filters through a FET gate. The pulse waveform is pretty regular as it is a simple comparator-type circuit inside the IG00158.
