CS80 stuck/hanging note

CS80 stuck/hanging note

2013-05-05 by Nigel99

Hello all,

Longtime lurker and recent CS80 owner here. My CS arrived last week after international shipping in a custom roadcase in seemingly good order.

On first inspection everything worked well but after moving it two rooms away to my studio it has now developed a stuck or hanging note issue. The note is heard from the time that I switch the synth on and I have isolated it to voice 5 on the top bank.

It has been suggested to me that it may just be a trimmer that has slipped and needs minor adjustment. I have fiddled with the lower trimpots on the M board and while I can defeat the voice altogether no setting can remove the sustaining note

I am about to swap out the EG IC and next the VCA on the M board and thought that it may be best to refer to the group to see if anyone else has had a similar issue.

Thank you in advance and best regards,
Nigel

Hi Laurie,

The key contacts are fine. The sustained note changes whenever the 5th voice is assigned.

Just an update: I changed the EG chip and that did not solve the problem. Next I swapped the VCA and the voice disappeared altogether so I swapped back the original VCA and the synth now works fine. Very strange.

I am scavenging chips from a CS50 voice board that I bought a couple of years ago through this site. Apparently the board was 100% operational so I guess I could have fried the VCA desoldering it from the board. Still doesn't get me closer to working out what the problem with the CS80 was. A good result however.

Hi Nigel - welcome to the group. Good news it's working now. I didn't have a chance to look into this before you fixed it.

FYI to any other group members trying to get hold of me: I've been very overwhelmed recently with both work and a very sick family member so lot's of stuff around the house, including CS80 work, is being neglected. I'll be catching up soon (I hope) on this stuff.

 David

did you ever fix this problem? just curious - i'm a bit appalled at the lack of response from forum members
