hello there!

hello there!

2006-02-27 by captaincs80

Hello there,

I just joined this group of CS80 fanatics a few days ago so... it's
from me hello to everyone as well!

Some of you may already know me as Vanheckis and will probably have
seen my cs80 dedicated site (http://www.xs4all.nl/~avanheck)

I have only one CS80 :) but also a very fine CS60.

My CS addiction all started a 3 years ago when i was trying to find out
what made Vangelis' sound so characteristic. After some internet
research I soon discover the relevance of the CS80 of course and tried
to find pictures of it on the internet. From that moment I was
intrigued by all those slider on the picture but i had no idea what
this machine would be capable off. So my first thought was. ah..this is
an old machine so i can easily get a cheap one on the second hand
market. I soon found out what reality was and how rare this instrument
is(bottom line: i knew nothing) but the addiction started from that
moment onwards. After a while I'd better give up my quest for the Holy
Instrument and thought I'd better look for a second CS60 to try to get
similar results in sound. Helas 1+1 isn't 2. the CS80 has an extra X-
factor. And then, one day, there was a CS80 owner in New Zealand ready
to sell his. I still had to wait 7 months for the shipment to arrive at
my frontdoor in Amsterdam. And then...guess what! I had forgotten about
t the fact that a New Zealand plug doesn't really fit a Dutch
powersosocket ! :)

Best
Antoine

Too funny! Welcom. BTW, nice site. I put up a post on it not long ago: http://matrixsynth.blogspot.com/2006/02/vanheckis-yamha-cs80-site.html

Also, for those on the list I recently grabbed these shots as well: http://matrixsynth.blogspot.com/2006/02/yamaha-cs80.html.
And here's are some posts that reference CS80: http://search.blogger.com/?as_q=cs80&ie=UTF-8&ui=blg&bl_url=matrixsynth.blogspot.com&x=282&y=16

Sorry, got carried away. : )

Cheers,

Re: [yamahacs80] hello there!

2006-02-28 by Tim Siefkes

Greetings to both Erik and Antoine and welcome aboard. I only came into
this CS80 group myself a few months back and it's fun to be able to
connect with other CS-80 owners and enthusiasts from all over. I've had
my CS-80 since about 1979, I remember carrying it home from the music
shop all excited with the CS-80 crammed into the back seat of my VW
Beetle! (I'm still not sure how I managed that, but I did.). Anyway
after years of heavy usage, followed by years of heavy neglect I finally
had my machine fully restored last summer when my old band had an
opportunity to do a one-time reunion gig and I couldn't go on without my
main instrument. So now I have been re-discovering how much fun this is
all over again.

Antoine, I really liked your site and it's about time someone had the
initiative to put that together. It was fun playing through all your
collection of preset sample sounds. Nicely done. I have to agree with
you that there is something about the physical connection through the
keyboard that isn't like any other. I haven't tried or experienced the
CS80V yet, and maybe never will. I can see it being useful for home
recording and MIDI projects, but for playing live with other musicians,
you gotta have the real thing, in my book.

Anyway, glad to have two new members to share stories with.
