Hello Jim :)

You are probably thinking of a 'piezoelectric' speaker. These often
require higher voltages to drive them - here's a link for such a
driver device:

   http://www.maxim-ic.com/appnotes.cfm/appnote_number/2914

Here's one link to a supplier of such speakers:

   http://www.murata.com/catalog/p15e6.pdf

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need more info.

Cellphone "loudspeaker"?

2006-06-20 by Jim Wagner

I'm working on a big AVR project (a data radio) and need a
small "loud speaker" for occasional use (error checking
during setup, for example).

So, does anyone know what the sound output transducers in
cellphones are called? I've looked in catalogs and have
found small tone makers, but no small voice-grade speakers.

Suggestions of where to look would be appreciated!

Hi Jim,

How small are you wanting? I've seen old cordless phones at hamfests that
have little speakers about an inch in diameter or less in them. You can
usually pick those things up for a dollar.

Hi Jim,

you might want to look for manufacturers of Loco-sounddecoders. They have
loudspeakers for H0-scale and even N-scale (which would be about the size as
of a cellphone speaker.

Here some links (unfortunately they are both in Germany, but the pictures
might help your local dealers to browse their right catalogues.

http://www.uhlenbrock.de/3/4/0/0/I2AF0124-001.htm

Or look for cellphone _surplus_ at your local dealers! *bay might also be a
source to look at.

I'm looking for something to go into a manufactured
product. But, something around that size would work. I'll
keep looking.

Thanks

Thanks for the great suggestions. I had seen
"microspeakers" in DigiKey but they cost a fortune. These
will at least provide for some experimenting.

Again, thanks!

Setting ISP frecuency from Codevision

2006-06-21 by Ricardo Callejo

How can i set to one specific value the ISP frecuency using Codevision and STK500?
STK500 firmware was updated with AVRStudio 4.12.
If i check Execute User's Program a Command Button called Programm Setting is enabled.
This button has three options :
Program Directory and Filename -> i set with stk500.exe path
Command Line parameters -> i set with -I460.80khz but doesn't work. STK500.exe help says that -I frequency is the way to modify this parameter. I probe it with or without space.
    Working directory -> nothing.
This was my course of action. But it's wrong.

I am programming the flash with AVRSTUDIO, changing the ISP frecuency to 1/4 Crystal (3.68Mhz) each time i need to reprogram the MCU.
When i set it to 460.8Khz, the systems works, and i can program the flash.
I read many threads about this problem. I understand that the main problem can be the SPIEN fuse and that you must change it to Internal ISP clock. Of course, I did it but Codevisión still can't program the flash.
Other info. BascomAVR can program the flash without problems.

Pavel has announced that as of 1.24.9a it will be back to being lower,
so will work devices that have a default internal RC of 1Mhz :)

The SPIEN fuse must be left in its default programmed state or ISP
programming is disabled.

I know that SPIEN default value is 0 to allow Low-voltage Serial Programming
Mode is ENABLED but AVRStudio shows it with a ? inside a gray box.

Is because AVRISP can’t read it?

No, it can't write it using ISP. I presume for safety reasons.
