Well--- After the suggestion that I actually, y'know, LOOK at the damn thing (y'know, like, flip it over), I indeed discovered a small battery hatch with 3 terribly corroded AA batteries within. Haven't replaced them yet, but I'm assuming that doing so will do the trick.
